About this tool
How to use it
- Choose a preset world city or enter your custom latitude, longitude, and elevation.
- Select your calculation convention (e.g. Muslim World League, ISNA, Umm al-Qura, Egyptian Authority, Karachi).
- Choose your Asr juristic school: Standard / Shafi'i (shadow factor 1) or Hanafi (shadow factor 2).
- Optionally select a high latitude adjustment method for polar and sub-polar summer conditions.
- Click "Calculate Prayer Times" to display the 5 daily prayer times, Sunrise, Qibla compass bearing, and next prayer countdown.
Why it matters
['Comprehensive astronomical calculations: Computes precise solar declination, equation of time, and zenith angles locally.', 'Major Islamic conventions supported: Fully configurable Fajr and Isha depression angles matching international authorities.', 'Offline and private: Never transmits your coordinates or location data to any third-party server.', 'Live countdown & Qibla bearing: Instant visual feedback for upcoming prayer transitions and compass direction toward the Kaaba.']
When to use it
['Daily worship routines: Check accurate local Salah times whether at home, at work, or traveling abroad.', 'Travel preparation: Calculate prayer schedules for flights, international layovers, and new cities.', 'Mosque timetables: Verify astronomical twilight and solar noon times for drafting local community schedules.', 'High latitude living: Handle white night phenomena during northern hemisphere summers with established Fiqh adjustments.']
Common questions
How does the Asr calculation differ between Hanafi and Shafi'i schools?
The majority of jurists (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) define Asr as when an object's shadow equals its midday minimum plus its height (factor 1). The Hanafi school defines Asr as when the shadow equals twice the object's height plus its midday shadow (factor 2), which occurs later in the afternoon.
Why do Fajr and Isha times vary between calculation conventions?
Different international conventions use varying solar depression angles below the horizon to define the true astronomical dawn (Fajr, between 15° and 19.5°) and the disappearance of evening twilight (Isha, between 15° and 18.5°, or 90 minutes after Maghrib in Umm al-Qura).
How does high latitude adjustment work?
In latitudes above 48° in summer, the sun may never descend low enough for astronomical twilight. Methods like Angle-Based (Middle of Night / One-Seventh) scale Fajr and Isha times proportionately based on night length to prevent impossible calculation values.
How is the Qibla bearing calculated?
The Qibla bearing is computed using spherical trigonometry (great-circle forward azimuth) from your coordinates to the Kaaba in Mecca (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E).
