Common questions
Why do shoe sizes differ so much between US and UK?
Both US and UK shoe systems use the barleycorn unit (1/3 inch), but their starting baseline offsets differ. A US men's size is generally approximately one size larger than a UK size (e.g. US 10 is roughly UK 9 or 9.5).
What is European (EU) shoe sizing based on?
EU shoe sizes use the Paris point system, where 1 Paris point equals 2/3 of a centimeter (approximately 6.67 mm). Unlike US and UK sizing, EU sizes do not differentiate between men and women.
How do women's dress sizes convert between the US and UK?
As a rule of thumb, UK women's clothing sizes are numerically 4 larger than US sizes. A US size 6 dress corresponds to a UK size 10, a US 8 to a UK 12, and a US 10 to a UK 14.
How should I accurately measure my foot length at home?
Place a piece of paper flat against a wall on a hard floor. Stand on it with your heel lightly touching the wall. Mark the tip of your longest toe with a pencil held vertically. Measure the distance in centimeters or inches, and always measure both feet and use the larger number.
What is the Mondopoint shoe system?
Mondopoint (used in Japan and for ski boots/military footwear) measures the actual length of the foot in millimeters or centimeters. It is the most objective and accurate sizing system worldwide.
