About this tool
How to use it
- Paste your unformatted, minified, or raw SQL query into the left-hand input editor.
- Select your target database dialect (ANSI SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, T-SQL, or Oracle).
- Choose your formatting preferences: uppercase or lowercase keywords, 2-space / 4-space / tab indentation, and leading or trailing commas.
- Click "Format SQL Query" to view the beautified syntax with structured indentation, or click "Minify SQL" to condense into a single line.
- Toggle between syntax-highlighted code and raw text, then copy the result to clipboard or download as a .sql file.
Why it matters
['Zero data leakage: All SQL parsing and formatting executes 100% client-side in your browser, keeping proprietary database schemas and internal queries secure.', 'Dialect-aware formatting: Adapts keyword casing, quote escaping, and comment styles to match PostgreSQL, MySQL, T-SQL, and SQLite standards.', 'Readability & debugging: Turns dense single-line or poorly spaced queries into clean, hierarchical blocks with aligned joins, CTEs, and where clauses.', 'Minification mode: Strips comments and whitespace for deployment in configuration files, command-line arguments, or application bundle constants.']
When to use it
['Code reviews & pull requests: Standardize database migration scripts and ORM-generated queries before merging.', 'Database debugging: Deobfuscate raw queries extracted from application logs, APM traces, or slow query dumps.', 'Documentation & query sharing: Clean up SQL snippets for internal wikis, runbooks, and team documentation.', 'Script preparation: Prepare formatted query files for deployment via CLI migration tools or CI/CD pipelines.']
Common questions
Is my SQL query or schema sent to an external server?
No. The entire lexical tokeniser and formatting engine operates purely client-side inside your browser. No queries or table names ever leave your machine.
Does this tool support Common Table Expressions (WITH clauses) and window functions?
Yes. CTEs, subqueries, and window functions (OVER, PARTITION BY, ORDER BY) are recognized and formatted with appropriate nested indentation.
Can I format queries with leading commas?
Yes. Choose 'Leading (, col1 , col2)' from the Comma Position selector to format queries using leading comma conventions favored by data engineering teams.
What dialects are supported?
Standard ANSI SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL), and Oracle PL/SQL.
