Master essential picking patterns, classical arpeggios, and funk basslines.

Sunshine of Your Love (Main Riff)
Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton play this descending chromatic blues figure in unison. Use warm neck pickup tone on guitar.
Stand By Me (Immortal Bassline & Chords)
The foundation of modern pop/soul bass lines. Acoustic guitar provides the percussive backbeat snap on beats 2 and 4.
Another One Bites the Dust
John Deacon's ultra-tight funk groove. Keep notes strictly staccato by releasing fretting pressure immediately after striking.
Billie Jean (Bassline & Chords)
One of the most famous basslines ever produced. Keep an even, hypnotic bounce on the F# root to C# fifth to E octave.
Feel Good Inc (Main Bassline)
Infectious bouncy bass hook created with slight tube overdrive. Acoustic guitar drives the chorus with open chords.
Sweet Child O' Mine (Intro Riff)
Slash's string-skipping arpeggios on frets 12-15. Duff McKagan anchors the groove with steady root-note eighth notes.
Enter Sandman (Intro Hook)
Kirk Hammett's signature tritone intro with clean electric guitar letting the notes ring out into the distortion swell.
Sweet Home Alabama (Opening Riff)
Ed King's iconic arpeggiated intro based on D, Cadd9, and G Major chords with subtle chromatic walk-downs.
Crazy Train (Main Riff)
Randy Rhoads' neoclassical metal masterpiece. Pedal point picking off the F# on the low E string to melodic notes on the A string.
Back in Black (Opening Riff)
Angus & Malcolm Young power chord precision. Keep the spaces between chords completely silent with palm muting.
Hysteria (Fuzz Bassline)
Voted one of the greatest basslines in rock history. Chris Wolstenholme pairs a heavy Russian Big Muff fuzz pedal with fast 16th-note alternate picking.
Californication (Melodic Intro)
John Frusciante's clean picking juxtaposed with Flea's expressive melodic slide fills in the upper register.
The Chain (Iconic Bass Breakdown)
John McVie's legendary bridge bass solo that builds tension into the high-octane guitar solo finale.

Why it matters
Tablature (tabs) is the universal musical notation system for fretted string instruments like guitar and bass. Guitarists and bassists need clean, monospace tablatures with transposition capabilities to match vocal ranges and practice alongside recordings without obstructive paywalls.
When to use it
Use this tool when learning new guitar riffs, transposing fret numbers for a capo, checking bassline roots, or finding community guitar arrangements.
Common questions
How do you read ASCII guitar tablature?
Guitar tab represents the 6 strings horizontally. The top line is the high E string (e), and the bottom line is the low E string (E). Numbers represent fret positions on that string (e.g. 0 is an open string, 2 is the second fret).
How does capo transposition affect tab fret numbers?
When a capo is placed on a fret, that fret becomes the new 'zero' (open string). When transposing a non-capo tab to a capoed position, fret numbers shift by the corresponding number of semitones.
What do 'S' and 'P' mean in bass tablature?
In funk bass tablature, 'S' stands for Thumb Slap (striking the low string with the bony ridge of the thumb) and 'P' stands for Pop (plucking under a higher string with the index or middle finger).
Can I copy the tab text to my clipboard?
