Habit Streak & Consistency Rate Planner
Enter your days elapsed and days completed to see your habit consistency rate, how many days you can miss (or need to make up) to hit your goal.

The consistency rate is simply completed days ÷ days elapsed. "Make-up days" or "forgiveness" both assume a run of all-success or all-miss days going forward from today — a mix of hits and misses will land somewhere between the two figures shown. This is arithmetic on the numbers you enter, not a tracked history — it doesn't know your actual daily record beyond the two totals you provide.
About this tool
How to use it
- Enter how many days it's been since you started tracking the habit, and how many of those days you actually completed it.
- Set your consistency goal as a percentage (80% is a common target for a 'mostly consistent' habit).
- Enter your current consecutive streak to see your next round-number milestone.
- Press Calculate Consistency, or just keep typing — the results update live.
Why it matters
A habit tracker's daily checkmarks don't automatically tell you whether you're actually on pace for a goal like '80% consistency' — that takes a quick calculation most people don't bother doing by hand. Seeing the exact rate, and exactly how many days of margin or catch-up you have, turns a vague sense of 'I've been doing okay' into a specific, actionable number.
When to use it
Useful partway through building a new habit, when deciding whether a missed day or two is still within your margin, or when you want a concrete number of make-up days to aim for after a slump.
Good to know
The consistency rate is simply completed days divided by days elapsed — a straightforward ratio, not a weighted or streak-aware score. The 'make-up days' and 'forgiveness runway' figures both assume every day going forward is either a full success or a full miss; a realistic mix of hits and misses will land you somewhere between the two extremes shown. This tool works entirely from the two numbers you type in — it has no memory of your actual day-by-day history and can't tell you which specific days you missed.
Common questions
How is consistency rate calculated?
Days completed divided by days elapsed, shown as a percentage — 22 completed days out of 30 elapsed days is 22/30 = 73.3%. It's a simple ratio, not adjusted for streaks, recency, or any other weighting.
What does 'forgiveness runway' mean?
It's how many more days in a row you could miss entirely, starting today, before your consistency rate would drop below your stated goal — assuming every one of those additional days is a miss. It only appears when you're currently meeting or exceeding your goal.
What does 'make-up days needed' mean?
When you're below your goal, this is how many consecutive full-success days it would take, starting today, to bring your rate up to exactly your goal percentage — assuming every one of those additional days is a success and no more misses happen in between.
Why can't I enter more completed days than elapsed days?
Completed days are a count of successes within the days that have already elapsed, so the count can be at most equal to the total elapsed days — entering a higher number would describe an impossible history, so the tool rejects it rather than showing a rate over 100%.
